Did You Know That Viagra

October 7, 2008

Did you know that when Viagra was launched back in 1998 (it is ten years old now!), it became the quickest selling drug in history. Pfizer can claim to have sold 37 million Viagra tablets in the UK alone. Viagra despite competition from other similar erectile dysfunction drugs Cialis and Levitra is still the best selling impotence medication worldwide and its name is the best known drug brand name in the world.

Did You Know That Viagra.....

For every properly made Viagra tablet it is estimated that at least two counterfeit ones are made in illegal factories around the world. Most of these factories are in China and India and it is reckoned that around 50 percent of what they produce is substandard and possibly dangerous. Contrary to what many people think, you will not get an erection only by taking a Viagra tablet. Unless you are actually sexually aroused you could take a Viagra tablet and not get a single erection in the four hour time window for it to work.

Despite the fact that impotence has become a topic that people are not embarrassed to talk about any more many men are still too shy to go to a doctor and get help. Legal online websites such as Ukmedix help hundreds of men every year by allowing them to have online consultations with a doctor for their erection problems. (more…)

Eat Big Breakfast to Lose Weight

July 9, 2008

Loosing weight is comparatively easy, it’s much harder not to put it back on. If you want to stay slim the first thing you should do as you get up in the morning is eat a substantial breakfast rich in protein and carbohydrates.

A new study conducted at Virginia Commonwealth University suggests that a big breakfast is a much more efficient dieting method than a small one. Women eating half of their daily norm of calories for breakfast have more chances to lose weight and what’s more important stay slim in the long term. The thing is that unlike low-carbs diets slowing metabolism and increasing the craving of the organism for carbohydrates, a carbs-rich breakfast in the morning helps increase metabolism while cutting the desire to eat.

By studying 94 obese women researchers compared the efficiency of low-carbs dieting methods to big-breakfast regime. The findings were amazing. At first low-carbs dieters lost more weight (28 lb vs 23lb for those eating a big breakfast) but in the long term the effect was quite the opposite. Low-carbs diet made women regain 18lb while carbs-rich breakfast drove the weight loss further accounting for another 16.5lbs off. The final results were 21% of total body weight loss for breakfast-eaters vs just 4.5% for those on a strict low-carbs diet.

Women who participated in the breakfast group also noted that they felt less hungry and didn’t crave for carbs as much as strict dieters did.

Watermelon as Viagra

July 2, 2008

A cold slice of watermelon has long been a Fourth of July holiday staple. But according to recent studies, the juicy fruit may be better suited for Valentine’s Day. That’s because scientists say watermelon has ingredients that deliver Viagra-like effects to the body’s blood vessels and may even increase libido.

“The more we study watermelons, the more we realize just how amazing a fruit it is in providing natural enhancers to the human body,” said Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center in College Station.

“We’ve always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important healthful benefits grows longer with each study.”

Happy Birthday, Viagra!!!

June 20, 2008

10 years have passed since the sensational arrival of the little blue magic pill that is known to perform wonders. For men fighting erectile dysfunction Viagra has become sort of a synonym to a pair of boxing gloves. The drug started a real sexual revolution only comparable to the one caused by the invention of contraceptive pills. In just ten years Viagra (sildenafil citrate) managed to get into the top list of the world’s best known brand names, helped almost 30 million men around the globe and it looks like there’s still way to go.

As you might or might not know the most appreciated effect of the drug was accidentally discovered during a series of medical trials for a new hypertension medication. The impact of this ‘accident’ can hardly be overestimated, since it completely changed lives of millions of men who were just about to give up on their sexual lives. Pfizer, the manufacturer of the drug, owes a hell lot of money to the Lady Luck.

Viagra is a great workout sportsman

June 10, 2008

When the Daily News approached John Romano about athletes’ love affair with Viagra, the senior editor at bodybuilding magazine Muscular Development laughed.”All the good secrets are getting out,” Romano chuckled.

Viagra, first studied as an aid for hypertension, remedies erectile dysfunction by relaxing blood vessels in the penis.

Athletes have found plenty of other reasons to embrace Vitamin V, though.

Romano said many athletes take Viagra with anabolic steroids before a workout, hoping Viagra’s ability to dilate blood vessels will help deliver the anabolics to their various muscle groups.

“The object of nutrient delivery is to get as much of it in the muscles ahead of time as possible,” said Romano, who said he used Viagra for that reason.

Study Pushes Anti-Bleeding Drug off Market

May 27, 2008

A new study conducted by the Ottawa Health Research Institute provides solid evidence that patients taking the anti-bleeding drug Aprotinin (marketed under the name of Trasylol) are at higher risk of dying from post-surgery complications then those receiving cheaper generic medications.

More than 2 thousand patients from 19 heart-surgery institutions of Canada took part in the research. The findings indicate that patients receiving Trasylol were 50% more likely to die from complications than those who took two other clotting medications (Amicar or Cyklokapron). 6% of the patients receiving Trasylol died within 30-day mark after the surgery. The reason for such high death rates, however, remains unrevealed. Researchers put the blame on the clotting properties of Trasylol.

According to the co-author of the research Dr. Paul Hebert, the risk of Trasylol outweighs its benefits. Trasylol (manufacturer Bayer AG) is used to prevent excessive blood loss during high-risk heart surgeries. The drug was first approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) in 1993.            (more…)
